The Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP) has expanded and reorganized its "Super-Accelerated Examination System" (which issues the first examination results within one month) to assist artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced biotechnology companies, both key national strategic technology sectors, in rapidly securing exclusive patent rights. Under this initiative, early-stage startups, venture enterprises, and Inno-Biz companies applying for patents in these technology sectors can drastically shorten their time to patent registration through these newly dedicated tracks.
Notably, the scope of eligibility has broadened to include early-stage startups with no prior export performance, as well as prospective entrepreneurs from universities and public research institutes. As these groups can now leverage the super-accelerated and prioritized examination tracks, strategic patent planning has become more critical than ever.
